Ministries:

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), was founded in 1980 to give a voice to refugees who had fled their homelands because of the many armed conflicts and unjust socio-political situations.

In Quebec, as early as 1974, the Jesuits began to welcome families from Vietnam (the “boat people”), then refugees from dozens of countries; and, in recent years, from Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, etc. The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) was founded in 1980 to give a voice to refugees from abroad because of the many armed conflicts and unjust socio-political situations.

Welcoming them and accompanying them in their integration into Quebec culture; defending their rights, locally and internationally, is the mission of JRS, present in 51 countries, including here in French Canada.

“If we help people who have been injured by mines, justice demands that we also fight to stop the cause of their suffering.”
