We have dozens of parishes across the U.S. and Canada. Jesuit parishes are guided by the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola, which encourage people to reflect on their experiences and to discern God’s presence in their lives. Our parishes aim to nurture lay leadership as well as personal faith. They are also committed to “the faith that does justice” by way of solidarity with the poor and dedication to the greater good.
Jesuit parishes are located in inner cities, suburbs and rural outposts, as well as on college campuses and Native American reservations.
Jesuit retreat centers can be found in places ranging from New England’s rocky coast to the foothills of the Rockies and the rustic trails of Santa Clara Valley. They are part of urban landscapes too.
Most houses offer an assortment of spiritual renewal programs centered around Ignatian spirituality. For example, “guided” retreats for groups often focus on a theme—which could be the Lenten journey, or substance abuse recovery. There are also “directed” retreats made by individuals. A retreat can draw together people who have never met each other. Or it could involve members of a parish youth group or colleagues at a Catholic school. Retreats can run for three hours, or 30 days, and durations in between.
