A Prayer for Living Dilexi te

Pope Leo XIV’s apostolic exhortation “Dilexi te,” released on October 9, 2025, calls on the church to remember that the care of those on the margins is at the heart of our mission.

There are burning bushes all around us,
Calling out to us in every tongue—
The presence of God sings sharp and clear
in every suffering face, in every outcast soul.
We who would be a Church for the poor,
Let us root out the poison of our indifference,
Let us turn away from our self-centered greed.

God of mercy, free us from seeing the poor
As anything less than our own sacred family.
Don’t let us walk by.
May our love for them cease to be an abstract idea
And become something with hands and feet,
Something that moves and breathes.
May it become the liturgy of our lives.
Amen.
